Communication - June 2022

From the Minister - Kyunghee reflection for June There are many ways to communicate with others. Forms of communication can include chats, letters, emails, phone calls, and social media. Very often we also use body languages like smiling, nodding, frowning, hand shaking or raising a hand while driving. How do you communicate with others? How often, how long and with whom do you communicate? In Bexley Uniting Church, there are many ways to communicate with each other. We can communicate through announcements, chats at morning tea and church meetings. We have the Church Council, Prayer Meetings, and the BUC Website Development Committee. We can talk through these groups. Of course, we can communicate by our prayers, singing, the liturgy and the sermon as well.

I am wondering how efficiently these methods work for you? Have you ever started a conversation with someone other than the ones you always talk to at the church? Are you hesitant even though you would like to begin a talk with someone that you don't know well? How many names can you recall when you have something special to share? What method is suitable for you?

Most of all, are you in a good conversation with God? God sent his only son to communicate with humans. Actually, God came by himself to this world to communicate with us. We need to talk to God. He is much closer to us than we think. And He always wants to communicate with us. This is the essential part in our faith, but we often forget this. When we live apart from God our lives get out of tune, which results in getting out of tune with others as well. I do hope you recall the cross with two pieces of wood overlapped. The vertical piece represents the relationship of God and humans and the horizontal piece shows the relationship between humans. When we live in tune with God, our relationship with others is also tuned properly. And please remember that God is ready to talk whenever you seek, God is ready to help whenever you ask.

I hope we can have more chances to talk in the church. Although we have a very good plan or happy news, if we don't communicate that with others, it disappears quickly. So, let us try to communicate with others, with the community that we belong to, and especially with God our Lord.
