Communicates in Different Languages - July 2023

Recently, I have been studying Ancient Greek again for myself. When I was in a theological college, I studied Greek and Hebrew. I enjoyed studying the ancient languages and reading the Bible in the original languages. I just hope you try to learn the ancient languages if you have a chance, which will be interesting and give you lots of fun.

As you know, the Old Testament was written in Hebrew and the New Testament was written in Greek. How many translations have there been before you read the Bible in your mother tongue?

Certainly there are changes of meaning that come from translations. There is also linguistic richness that comes from multiple translations. But when reading a book in the original language and rereading it in translation, most readers can easily tell the difference.

For example, when I read the Bible in its original language, English, and Korean, it feels like they are completely different from each other. These experiences led me to contemplate the ever-changing nature of God. And I am astonished to encounter the vastness of language and its ability to shape our understanding. In the end, I am reminded of the infinite wisdom and creativity of God. His boundless nature transcends language barriers and communicates His message through diverse languages.

It is truly remarkable to know how diverse and multifaceted God's Word can be within the subtle differences of languages. The nuances and intricacies of different languages allow for a rich and varied understanding of God's message.

Our existence is often defined by the languages we use. However, there is no one official language mandated for the Kingdom of God, and it is not necessary for all of us to learn Hebrew and Aramaic which Jesus used.

Surely, God transcends language, culture, age, and gender. May today be a day when you engage in communication about God with people who speak different languages than you do. May God bless you.
